Ignoring Reneâs running commentary, Oz spoke directly to London, âWhere did you hear that word?â Hurrying on to avoid what happened earlier, he added, âNo, I donât think youâre crazy.â He loved that she laughed at the reference. Theyâd made so much progress in such a short time. London was his match in every way. Maybe, just maybe, the Universe really did know what She was doing. âI only ask because, while you were unconscious, I was pulled into The Shimmer to have a little conversation with my dadâ¦who, by the way, has been dead for about a hundred years.â
âNo way. Really? The Shimmer, huh?â
âOh yeah,â he answered, knowing things were about to get even weirder.
âCool name. I was in a place that sounds kinda the same, and my mom was there. Sadly, sheâs also already passed away.â
âSorry, Sweetheart. I can feel how much it still hurts.â
âThank you. It does.â She took a quick breath. âBut it was nice to see her.â
âI know. I was there.â
âYou were in the exact same place that I was?â
âSure was.â
âCould you hear what we were talking about?â
Her voice sounded distant, almost worried, forcing him to ask, âNo. Why?â
Indecision flooded their Mating Bond along with agitation and a healthy dose of indecision. Taking a breath, restraining his instinct to demand she answer, he waited. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity but was really less than ten seconds, she blew out a long breath and confided, âShe was telling me that I needed to get over myself and be nicer to you.â
Not responding right away because quite frankly, he was shocked, Oz was just about to ask why a woman heâd never met, and who was already in the Heavens, would take his side. Instead, he was further astonished when his sassy, stubborn Mate admitted, âAnd she was right. If I wouldâve just swallowed my pride, things wouldnât have gone so far off course.â
âNope. No way.â Oz adamantly objected. âYouâll not shoulder the blame. It wasâ¦â
âLook, my momma always said not to get in between a man and a woman when they were hashing things out, but Iâm thinkinâ weâre closinâ in on the desert and yâall have yet to give me even the tiniest clue what a tetrad is and what it has to do with this Demon weâre about to face.â Reneâs voice was light but to the point and he was absolutely right. Oz couldâve kicked himself for once again losing focus, but London was fascinating. He wanted to spend the rest of forever discovering everything about her.
But that will have to waitâ¦
âIf it is a Demon,â Oz wondered into their minds before snickering, âAnd your momma was right, but Iâll let yaâ off the hook this time.â
âYep,â London quickly agreed, making the sides of Ozâs snout curl up in a grin. âSorry, Rene. Too much going on and runninâ on no sleep makes me loopier than usual.â
âNo need to apologize. Iâm real glad things are workinâ out for yâall, I just
